Diamonds

Everyone’s looking for the same thing: The most brilliant...beautiful...highest quality diamond they can afford. In order to find that dream diamond, we must look at 4 essential characteristics ¬– Known as the 4-Cs:

Color, cut, clarity and carat weight. These rarity factors affect the beauty, brilliance, and quality of a diamond and determine its cost. However, some rarity characteristics do not affect the beauty and brilliance as much as the others. Color & Cut directly affects the beauty and brilliance, because these 2 characteristics are what we see when we look at a diamond. The Sparkle...The Warmth...The Fire!

Clarity refers to the tiny microscopic markings that are formed in every diamond crystal. Known as inclusions, these tiny birthmarks can only be seen under a high magnification microscope and not by the unaided naked eye. Consequently, they do not affect the diamond’s beauty or brilliance. However, as a rarity factor, they can dramatically affect the price! Carat is a unit of weight equal to 1/5th of a gram. A carat is divided into subdivisions called points; 50 points is exactly 1/2 carat. If your diamond weighs .78 carats, it would be classified as a 3/4-carat diamond. If your diamond were valued at $1000 per carat... it would cost $780.00. Get the 4-Cs right and you’ll get a great big “YEAH!”

4Cs Buying Guide

Many people are confused about how diamonds are priced. The best explanation is that asking for the price of a diamond is like asking for the price of a house. A real estate agent can’t quote you a price for a house without knowing its size, condition, location, etc. This process is the same one used when buying a diamond. A diamond’s beauty, rarity, and price depend on the interplay of all the 4Cs—cut, clarity, carat, and color.     more »
